To mark breast cancer awareness month, Northwell Health will host two breast cancer-related seminars in the Huntington area on October 23 and October 26.
Nearly 300,000 new cases of intensive breast cancer are anticipated to be diagnosed in 2019. can affect that tissue and also potentially spread into nearby lymph nodes.
Northwell Health’s first event is for women to learn more about their risk of breast cancer as well as ways to prevent, screen and treat this disease. The two-hour event will take place October 23 at 5:30- p.m. at the in Greenlawn. ’s , a breast surgeon; , a medical oncologist; and , a breast radiologist, will host this discussion.

Women who have breast cancer and are thinking about breast reconstruction surgery can learn about available options, including 3D microsurgery, robotic mastectomy and lymphatic reconstruction from a panel of experts and breast reconstruction patients. This is for women who have breast cancer or a genetic predisposition to breast cancer and are thinking about breast reconstruction.
The event will take place October 26 at 10 a.m. at the Huntington Country Club. The medical experts who will be available include: Joyce Au, MD, breast surgeon; Erna Busch-Devereaux, MD, chief of breast surgery at Huntington Hospital; Alison Mishkit, MD, breast surgeon; Adam Perry, MD, chief of plastic surgery at Southside Hospital; Mark Smith, MD, associate chief of plastic surgery for Northwell Health; and Neil Tanna, MD, MBA, chief of plastic surgery at Long Island Jewish Forest Hills Hospital.
